WEAPONRY
Chanbara is a modern day version of KEN-Jitsu (Japanese
samurai swordsmanship) and Japan’s national sport. Chanbara
originated 30 years ago in Japan and is incorporated in their
school system as football, baseball and other sports activities
have been here and is growing across the nation. It has been
very popular with kids and adults alike, both male and female.
Chanbara uses foam padded samurai swords and other traditional
martial arts weaponry (bo staffs, escrimas, nunchakus) that eliminates
the need of years of formal training and the expense of bulky
armor and bamboo swords that allows a one on one duel without
the fear of injury. Protective head/eye/hand gear and trained
referees are also used to further insure a safe activity.
The study of weaponry enables the Tae Kwon Do student to better
develop their basic blocking techniques as well as self defense
against attackers welding weapons.
