About Us

Mission & Values

We are dedicated to studying and teaching self-discipline through mastering the Art of Tae Kwon Do.
We strive to teach kids and adults Life Skills that will help them succeed.
We believe that people can become better at anything they want to do by mastering themselves. This principle is
       called Chi (pronounced "Chee")
We emphasize personal growth and development.
We believe in the importance of Academic success.
We teach respect for oneself, one's family and all people.
We know that when students learn the value of working to achieve a goal, their small successes lead to more and
greater successes. This develops self-confidence, which leads to better self-esteem and even more successes!
We know that studying Martial Arts is fun and exciting!
We do not require uniforms -- not even for Belt Testing.
We have no testing fees, hidden costs or long-term contracts

Curriculum

  • ASK follows the traditional International Tae Kwon Do Federation (ITF) methods of teaching Tae Kwon Do. However, we have added some new elements to enhance the students physical and mental education, most notably our use of Homework Assignments and printed curriculum sheets for each belt level.
  • Our homework assignments are designed to instruct the students and to inform the student's parents. Each assignment is to be read by the student to his/her parents; we then ask the parent to sign the assignment sheet as proof of its completion.
  • Students under the age of 18 are given a "Student Folder" to keep their assignments and completed homework organized. Students are responsible for bringing their folders to each class. There is an exception to this rule: if the students are in more than one class per week; homework is collected only at one class.
  • ASK's Curriculum sheets are designed to help the students focus their energies on the specific skills they currently need to learn are given to the students as they reach each new belt level. This prevents students from attempting to learn moves before they are physically capable and before they need to.

Policies

1. We do not require uniforms. Not even for Belt Testing.
2. We have no testing fees, hidden cost or long contracts.
3. One day per week is all that is necessary in the beginning level of Martial Arts training. As a student progresses
to the Upper Belt Levels, the student should attend class more.

4. You should be on time for class. If a student is late due to circumstances beyond their control, he or she must
request permission form the instructor to join the class in session. Simply approach the instructor and wait for
him or her to acknowledge you and instruct you to take a place in class.

5. We agree to teach and you agree to learn.
6. The student is responsible for completing their homework and bringing their Student Homework Folders to
class. If you lose your homework folder, the replacement cost is either:
  • $100.00 donation to A.S.K.
  • A list with $20. worth of chores performed at home without actual payment
7. Students will not be allowed to test for Belts without their folders.
8. Practice at home at least 30 minutes per day.
9. Bow when entering and leaving the classroom. This is an acknowledgement of respect for the lessons you learn
while you are in class, your safety while in the classroom, the       instructors, your friends and fellow students
     and yourself.

10. Approved safety gear is required for all free sparring and available for purchase  at Green Belt level.
11. You must be conscious of your personal and fellow student's safety at all times. You cannot teach other
students moves, punches, rolls, or kicks without instructor approval. Students need to concentrate on
techniques specific to their belt level before higher rank techniques are taught or pacticed.
